If you’re looking for an epic way to see San Diego, look no further than San Diego GoCar Tours.
Seriously, as a newbie to America’s Finest, I’m overwhelmed at the options of things to do here. As a small-town kid, I’m not used to having so many options around every corner.
Fortunately, I stumbled upon San Diego GoCar Tours and saw an opportunity to dig a little deeper into the city.
My experience on the San Diego CoCar Tours reminded me of the one I had on the Monterey Bay Food Tours. On that tour, I had lived in Monterey for 12 years and had never been to any of the places. While that’s no surprise here considering my newness to San Diego, I brought along a local who was just as new to some of the areas as I am.
So, What is the San Diego GoCar Tours?
A lot of people think “go cart,” but it’s not quite the same.
Think less “go cart” and more “Mario Kart,” as the attendant, Cassandra, told us upon check-in.
The San Diego GoCar Tours is a little three-wheeled scooter-bike-hybrid that’s got a GPS map installed. The tour comes with a physical map, too, and the GPS offers a guided tour throughout the city. As she narrates along the route, she offers historical information and points of interest as you go.
This interactive-style tour is much more personal than doing a guided one with many people on it. Even though you’re driving, it’s easy to see everything the guide points out along the way.
How Do You Use the GoCar?
I’ll be honest, I was nervous at first!
Driver and passenger alike have to start out watching the safety video, which provides great information. Thankfully, Cassandra was there to answer any other questions we had to make sure we were ready.
There are two brakes that are the same as brakes on bike handlebars. The right handlebar is the gas, and you simply pull the throttle toward yourself to go.
Like I said, I was still nervous at first, but Cassandra was right: I had it down by the time I got to the stop sign at the end of the street.
Where Does the GoCar Take You?
There are a few different answers here, so upfront, it just depends on the route you choose.

As for us, we did the 2-hour Downtown and Balboa Park Tour. This tour definitely highlights some more of the popular areas while interspersing with some lesser-knowns.
After leaving the Old Town area where we started, we headed oceanside and cruised along the harbor. This takes you by the Maritime Museum, the U.S.S. Midway, and the Seaport Village. I hadn’t had an opportunity to see any of this. I definitely want to be able to head back to the museums — especially since I’m still shook by the Museum of Us.
The seaside behind us, we then moved into the Gaslamp Quarter. The architecture alone in this area showcases why this part of town is “historic,” and the fun facts along the way were a highlight.
Weaving our way through downtown took us through Little Italy and… just… the smell of the food is unlike anything. Seriously. This little section of downtown is known for the restaurants for good reason, and I can’t wait to dive in and explore more.
Balboa Park is one of my favorite places in San Diego. I’ll always take any opportunity I can to visit. This park is home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo, and as things return to normal, I can’t wait to check this one out.

Is The San Diego GoCar Tours Worth It?
Without a doubt.
Honestly, I’ve had a good time out here in San Diego and Oceanside so far, but I do think this was the most fun activity I’ve done to date.
This definitely wouldn’t have been the same experience without my friend Charlene tagging along. I’m so grateful to have had her there for the ride.
Fortunately, San Diego isn’t the only city that offers this service, so I’m always going to keep my eye out for this opportunity whenever I can.
