Small (But Tall) BookTuber Tag

Today, I’m just going to be doing my little Small Booktuber Tag

Liz over at Galactic Reads tagged me to do this like two months ago.

I finally have the time to fit it in, and as of this recording I now have two other videos that I've been tagged in, so I'm gonna try and start getting all of those out of the way.

Welcome back to my channel.

If this is your first time here, my name is Andrew, if this is not your first time here, welcome back.

I love you.

Today, I'm just going to be doing my little Small Booktuber Tag.

Liz over at Galactic Reads tagged me to do this like two months ago.

I finally have the time to fit it in, and as of this recording I now have two other videos that I've been tagged in, so I'm gonna try and start getting all of those out of the way.

I've just been super busy this month with that readathon going on over at the Shelf Space Discord. If you are not with us on that Discord, you're missing out.

Anyway, apart from all of that, I'm not gonna waste any time, let's get Write On In.

Okay, so there's just six questions here, so I'm just going to go through them as fast as I can get it out of the way.

First one is simply just "Introduce Yourself."

I just gave you my name a minute ago, I am Andrew.

Here's three fun facts about me:

I am just under six foot six.

I was born and raised in Yosemite but I now live in Monterey, California.

And I am an Eagle Scout.

I hope that's sufficient enough.

Number two, how long have you been on BookTube?

I guess technically this is my first month with BookTube-forward content.

Then, the next question is what type of videos do you make, so I guess I'll kind of answer that with this.

I make writerly-type videos, bookish type videos, anything to do with the written word.

When I first started in September, which is when this channel started, it was writing only for the first couple of months, especially in November when I did NaNo, but now I'm gonna work on a blend.

So we'll just see where it goes from here.

What do you love about BookTube?

Super easy, I'm just gonna say the exact same thing everybody else says when they're asked this question, and that is the community.

The reason that everybody says that is because it is true, especially over on that Shelf Space Discord.

From what I have found, it's just been so welcoming, everybody, that is part of BookTube loves everybody else in booktube for the most part.

I also love Lezlie's Discord from The Nerdy Narrative, Allenxandria has his own Discord as well for the Knights of Allenxandria…

The more people that I meet and the more people I interact with and the more friends that I make, the more fun all of this just becomes.

At first when I started, I didn't know anybody, and now that I have friends, it just makes it all so much easier to, I don't know, hang out every day on YouTube.

So, the community for sure.

And if you are not part of BookTube, I mean, you're really the one missing out, not me, so…

Next up, what type of books do you read?

I do predominantly read fantasy, horror, thriller-esque types, especially because that's also what I write, but I like anything really.

Especially, like what I was saying with this channel where, as long as it deals with the written word, I guess it would fit into this channel.

But I like poetry, I like screenwriting, I like all that kind of stuff.

So I'm happy to read whatever.

I wish that movie scripts were more available in book format, but you can just go to the Internet Movie Script Database and read them, if you're interested.

But yeah, that's what I read, mostly fantasy, horror, but really I'm kind of open to anything.

Just as I said in my Booktube Newbie Tag, if it is executed well, I like it.

Next up is what is the favorite video that you've made on your channel so far?

It hasn't come out yet, but I think that my answer to this will be my Lord of the Rings movie set expectation versus reality video.

I've recorded that, it was supposed to actually come out right now when this video is coming out, but I've just been really busy with that readathon so I just haven't gotten around to editing it.

It has been filmed, but just not edited yet, but I think that one will be my favorite.

At the moment, I think it might be my Supernatural seasons tier ranking because I love that show and it was my first kind of attempt at making some BookTube-esque content or entertainmenty content.

But, yeah so I would say those.

In the future, I've got a lot planned, and I'll probably switch this answer out for one of those, but I just haven't gotten to them yet.

So last question here is just tag four small BookTube channels or every small BookTuber that you can think of.

I -- everyone that I thought of that I went to go look at has already done this tag, so I'm just going to give a little shout out to a couple of channels that I love that I would love for you to go and check out.

And if any of these channels have not done that tag, then you're tagged.

First one is going to be Rimareads.

As of the recording of this video, she just hit 100 subscribers this morning.

I'm proud of her.

She's hilarious, so go check her out.

Erica over at Geeklet Reads Stuff, she is on my team, Kevin McCallister readathon for the Shelf Space, so I love her.

I love her little West Virginia accent and I love the way she talks about books.

So while you're checking her out, you might as well go and check out my team captain Jeff over at The Fowler Project, and you might as well go check out Joana Sousa as well, who is just another member of my beautiful Kevin McCallister team.

While you're doing all that, you might as well go check out Kate from LoveStory because she's the nicest person in the world.

You might as well go check out Vish over at Books with V because she has got the coolest accent in the world.

You might as well go check out Kirsten The Reading Nymph because she was like the second or third BookTuber that I found and she is one of the few booktubers who I don't talk to outside of YouTube.

And she's hilarious and I love her little British, I don't know, roundups of all the books that she reads.

And then the last one is actually not a BookTuber, he's an AuthorTuber, I've just been trying to find a time to shout him out.

His name is Kieran Westwood, I don't think he's ever going to do this video.

If you are interested in writing videos, especially if you like flash fiction or short story kind of stuff, I definitely recommend checking him out because he's my favorite writer channel.

So, sorry any other writer channel out there, but it's just how it is.

All right.

Well, that was a super fun and quick little tag video.

As I said, I have a couple more coming up this month, I have one from Kayla over at Kraken to a Good Book.

I'm gonna try to squeeze that one in soonish because it's a holiday-themed one so I want to make sure I get that up before Christmas.

And Lezlie over at The Nerdy Narrative also tagged me in a video this morning, so I will put that on my list of videos to get out.

I love being tagged in videos, so I don't know.

If I see the tag, I'm down to do the video, even if it takes me a couple months.

But that'll do for today.

So thank you all so much for watching, I hope you've gotten to know me just a little bit better.

Thank you all so much for accepting me into this community, because I don't know.

I have fun.

Every day has new videos from people for me to watch, and every day has new friends for me to make, so thank you all for letting me be a part of this with you.

And if you have not done this tag video for yourself, and I have not tagged you to do it, please feel free because we're going to be your friend.

I promise.

Even before you're done, I don't know.

But in the meantime, just come hang out with us on Shelf Space.

Okay?

See you next time!

An Ode to BookTube... You Complete Me

For real, to the general Shelf Space community, or anyone that I have or have not yet met on BookTube: I love you so much.

What is up, BookTubers/bloggers?

Welcome!

My name is Andrew, for those of you who do not know.

If you watch the above-included video, the beard will be gone by the end. the end of this video,

Oh, my gosh, it's so weird!

I have always wanted to take place in No Shave November, but for the entire duration of having had this beard, I have worked in the hospitality industry. There, you have to either have a beard, or not. No in-between.

Thanks to COVID, I guess, I don't have to worry about that this year.

I'm also doing I because I wanted to show the impact of what it's like to write a book as the author.

That's also kind of what this video/post is partly about.

If you saw/read my BookTube Newbie tag, you will know that I very recently just discovered the mass wealth of you that exists on YouTube.

Particularly on the Shelf Space Discord run by Jessie Mae... You have all been so nice and welcoming to me.

You also commented on how great my personality was, so I am just gonna try and channel my inner Allenxandria as often as I can, because that guy is hilarious.

And Allen has subscribed to me, so thank you, Allen… you're hilarious.

I also said in that video that I stream your videos on my TV while I write.... so trust me when I say, you all really influence me.

That being said, those of you who have kind of poked around know that I've basically constructed a dark fantasy book from scratch for this year's National Novel Writing Month.

There's plenty about that all floating around here, but the character, plot, and setting videos/posts are definitely the places to find out most of that information.

I just wanted to let you all know that, whether you interact with me or not... You all really really inspire me.

I suck sometimes at commenting and letting my presence be known, and letting you know that I'm there to interact with in the first place. So far, any time that I do that, you've been really nice and welcoming.

And I'm appreciative of that.

You have all given me the dose of inspiration I really didn't even know that I needed.

I sincerely mean it when I say that I am so grateful that I found you all.

And this website is…

Oh, my… my God is going to include my daily writings from this book.

Because I'm a psycho person.

It's also going to be included with some daily writing prompts, so those of you BookTubers -- like Liz over at Galactic Reads or Lezlie over at Nerdy Narrative -- who just want to write for fun can maybe write for fun with just those.

But this whole "construct a book and write it on YouTube/your blog" idea thing came before I had even posted a single thing to this channel.

I had plotted out three month's worth of content that I treated as a probation period.

Like, "If this were to be some sort of full-time thing, what would that look like?"

So this whole "write an example book" that started in August was really just a way for me to hold myself accountable.

To "show up for the job," if you will.

But this whole, "Post the first draft daily as you write it while anybody in the world could read it," idea?

Definitely sounded not as scary when I thought about it in August.

Now, I feel like I am on the ledge, waiting to jump off of that bungee, or strapped in for a skydive that is completely out of my control.

But the thing is, those jumps ended up… perfectly fine.

Great, actually.

Some of the best memories of my life, despite how scared I was for them.

So now, I'm just curious to see how you all are going to inspire and shape this random book I pulled out of my ass.

This will forever, as the ninth book that I have completed in my personal little author career, be known as "The book that was written by BookTube" for me.

And if any of you do have any interest in actually influencing this book, outside of just whatever I might get from your videos, feel free to comment on my blog, or on my YouTube videos about how you think of the book.

Or, if you want to just read the bulk posts that I post with my Weekly Writing Wrapup vlogs, feel free to do so.

For you, I suppose it gives you the opportunity to "sit on the author's shoulder" while the book is being written.

And I don't want to keep "calling out" all of these channels that I now love, either.

Even though I love you, and even though you're going to be inspiring me whether you like it or not, I also don't really want anyone to feel obligated to join in any of this.

But for real, to the general Shelf Space community, or anyone that I have or have not yet met on BookTube:

I love you so much.

I'm just trying to find one of you who doesn't like fantasy.

But in retrospect, considering how drunk I was when I came up with all of this in the first place, I guess I'm grateful that the generator randomly decided that I was gonna write a dark fantasy book.

Because now, hopefully, I can maybe write one that you're interested in.

And even if no one participates, because reading a first draft might not sound fun, I am still at least, as the author, interested to see how this book is gonna turn out, anyway.

Especially recording all of it with the way that I am, I've just never done it like this before.

AKA, I have mixed feelings about whether or not I actually want any of you to join.

This is my way of "contributing" to BookTube during National Novel Writing Month.

"Hey, here's a book for you to read. That you can totally just tear to shreds while you're at it until I have time to make some actual BookTube-related content in December."

Oh, my God, what am I doing?

Anyway, it's just gonna be there for the whole world, who now knows about it, so it's fine if you want to go read it.

I'm -- I'm just gonna go puke.

No!

It's okay, Andrew.

We got this!

But, anyway, let's… let's get write on in to getting your read on.

Okay, love you.
